Head out on an Epic Safari whilst tracking the Big Five on open 4×4 vehicles in Kruger Park and a Private Reserve. Experience delicious local african cuisine under the night skies. Soak up the African sun on some leisure time around the pool before enjoying some exciting optional activities. Encounter the Big Five on a guided game walk in the Kruger Park and end your journey whilst taking in the sights of the Blyde River Canyon along the Drakensberg Escarpment.
We depart Johannesburg as we make our way to the Greater Kruger National Park where our Safari adventure begins. After travelling through the Highveld farmlands we descend the Drakensberg Escarpment and into the Lowveld, home to some of the most pristine Private Game Reserves in South Africa and the world renowned Kruger National Park. We arrive at Thornhill Safari Lodge in time for a delicious lunch.
After some relaxation time, we venture out on a late afternoon/evening Big Five game drive in open 4×4 vehicles in one of the neighbouring Private Reserves. We take a break for Sundowner drinks at one of the waterholes en route enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the African Bushveld before continuing our game drive into the night.
Located within the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve and forming part of the Greater Kruger Park ecosystem, Thornhill offers comfortable accommodation in authentic thatched roof chalets. Vibrant fabrics and local hardwood furniture all create that rustic yet stylish bush atmosphere. Sit back and relax in our Bar/Lounge area or sip cocktails around the swimming pool and treetop viewing deck overlooking the majestic Drakensberg Mountain Range and never ending wilderness.

Thornhill Safari Lodge is about a 45 minute drive to Kruger National Park’s Orpen Gate. Big 5 Game Drives on this itinerary are conducted in the Kruger National Park and neighbouring Private Game Reserves to achieve the best game viewing experience.

An early rise as you are greeted by your guide and enjoy coffee and rusks before embarking on a day of exploration in the celebrated Kruger National park. The Park offers an unrivalled wildlife experience that ranks with the best not only in Africa, but around the world. Its rich history dates back to 1898, and its goal has always been to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld. Today, this national treasure offers two million hectares of unspoiled African bushveld.
Truly the flagship of the South African National Parks, Kruger remains home to an impressive number of species ranging from 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 517 birds and 146 mammals. Look forward to a safari experience that unfolds from the moment you enter the Kruger Park, and explore the best game drive routes the Park has to offer.
Our game drive takes us through varied topography with an amazing variety of wildlife, birds, plants and trees. We break at a remote picnic site to enjoy our packed breakfast before continuing our Safari discovering the unspoilt, untamed wilderness that makes Kruger Park so special. Our journey continues as we stop off at the various viewpoints and waterholes whilst game viewing and bird watching along the way.
We return to the comforts of Thornhill Safari Lodge, and enjoy yet another taste of traditional African cuisine before retiring to the peaceful sounds of the African night.
FULL DAY OPEN 4X4 SAFARI VEHICLE GAME DRIVE IN KRUGER PARK
This is your leisure day, where you can soak in the African sun, relax at the lodge and sip cocktails around our inviting swimming pool or partake in any of our numerous and exciting optional activities on offer. Take a Big Five open vehicle game drive or visit a local animal rehabilitation centre or simply spend the day reading under the shade of our famous Marula trees.
After a day spent relaxing in the distinct African ambience of the lodge, you can look forward to enjoying delicious African dishes prepared by our chefs.

After an early wakeup call you head back to the Kruger Park and enjoy another full day on an open 4×4 safari. This is the perfect opportunity to explore other prime game drive routes and to spot the animals you may have missed on your previous game drives.
After an insightful afternoon, we make the trek back to Thornhill in the late afternoon in time to freshen up before again enjoying some delicious bushveld cooking.

Today is another leisure day and you have the opportunity to simply relax at the lodge or partake in some of the optional activities that you have missed so far.
After an enjoyable day it is time to take in the sounds of the African night around the campfire whilst enjoying dinner in the Boma and watching the night skies.

An early rise as we head off on a game walk exploring the reserve on foot. Our qualified field guides will share their passion with you as you learn some fascinating facts about the environment and its inhabitants that surround you.
After a tasty breakfast, we greet you farewell as you depart on the next leg of your journey returning to Johannesburg. Ascending the majestic Drakensberg Escarpment we stop off to view the amazing Blyde River Canyon and Three Rondawels.
Please don’t book any international flights until after 10pm this evening.
